Garbage Day

I finally finished the little kids' room.  Painting the ceiling was not fun.  I always think that I like to paint, until I actually do it.  Then I remember.  I don't.  But now it's done, and Matthew knows what yellow is.

We've been spending lots of time at the pool, outside in the yard, and just about everywhere else.  We're loving the weather -- when there's no tornadoes and thunderstorms.  The kids are really starting to swim well, thanks to Kelsey!

One of the kids' favorite places to eat popsicles is out on the deck.  I've decided I'm never going to buy popsicles again as long as I live.  I've said this before, of course, as I was scrubbing the sticky spots off the floor, but I forgot.  That's why I wrote it down this time.

And since we've been having so much fun, the kids have been wearing themselves out.  We walked into our room the other day, and found this:
Gotta love those toes.

And for those of you who don't know, Matthew has a problem.  He is addicted to garbage cans.  I know.  It's a big problem.  Our neighbors have started to notice.  They've been asking about it.  It's kind of embarrassing.  He insists on moving the garbage cans several times a day.  I hope people know we're not just stupid and don't know what day the garbage man comes, but that we have a son with an addiction.  To garbage cans.

Matt always knows when garbage day is coming.  He sees the neighbors bringing their cans out the night before.  As soon as the first one hits the curb, he starts jumping up and down and screams "move garbage!"  Actually, it sounds more like "moop dawjej!"  We swing into action (and we're really good -- we've been practicing all week, don't ya know) and carefully wheel our two cans out to the curb.  Then he wakes up VERY early the next morning, and runs to the door, shouting "Dawjej tuck!  Dawjej tuck!"  We peel ourselves out of bed and patiently wait in the front yard for the garbage man.

First, the grass man comes.  Matt starts jumping up and down as soon as he's in view.  And then, as if he weren't weird enough, he actually applauds every time the truck dumps a garbage can.  The grass man thinks it's really funny.  He waves to the kids as he passes.  Then, we wait until he comes back around and does the other side.  The most exciting part is when the garbage truck shows up, and the grass truck and the garbage truck are dumping at the same time.  That's what we live for.

"Well done, garbage man.  Well done."
